Five Supplements suggestion for PCOS based on study

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age, affecting 4 to 18% of this demographic. It is characterized by clinical features such as anovulation, inflammation, and infertility, and is associated with various health risks, including metabolic, reproductive, and psychological implications. In my practice, I often see infertility patients who are affected by PCOS. here, I'm sharing some supplements that I recommend to my actual patients and this suggestion is based on this study!

Curcumin

Curcumin, derived from turmeric, is an antioxidant that regulates detoxification pathways. It may improve ovulation and biochemical profiles in PCOS patients, reducing insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism. It also has anti-inflammatory effects and improves glycemic control.

Coenzyme Q10(CoQ10)

PCOS patients often have higher levels of inflammatory cytokines, indicating an inflammatory state. CoQ10 supplementation may reduce these inflammatory markers, improving endothelial function.

PCOS, characterized by anovulation, insulin insensitivity, and inflammation, can be managed with natural molecules like CoQ10, which has anti-inflammatory effects and it may improve insulin sensitivity.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency is common in women with PCOS and may contribute to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Vitamin D receptors control genes critical for glucose metabolism, and variants in these receptors are linked to insulin sensitivity, insulin resistance, and testosterone levels in women with PCOS.

Supplementing with vitamin D may improve insulin sensitivity, glucose levels, hormonal function, and hyperlipidemia in PCOS patients. Vitamin D also plays a role in reproductive health, improving hyperandrogenism and supporting successful pregnancy.

Additionally, vitamin D regulates follicular development and influences ovarian sensitivity to hormones. Overall, vitamin D supplementation is recommended for women with PCOS to improve metabolic and reproductive health.

Myo & D-Chiro Inositol 40:1 ratio

Women with PCOS have shown reproductive improvement with supplements of inositol, particularly when combined with other molecules.

The combination of myoinositol and D-chiro-inositol (DCI) is considered beneficial for PCOS due to their ability to lower insulin resistance and positively affect metabolism. This combination improves pregnancy rates without affecting embryo quality or oocyte maturation.

DCI can improve oocyte quality by acting directly on the ovum or adjusting follicular fluid composition.

The combination also decreases testosterone levels and increases insulin sensitivity, improving oocyte cytoplasmic quality.

Myoinositol and DCI decrease plasma testosterone and LH levels, counteracting hyperandrogenism and reducing hirsutism and acne.

Studies suggest a myoinositol/DCI ratio of 40:1 is most effective in restoring ovulation in women with PCOS, with DCI's activity proving most beneficial at this ratio.

Melatonin

Recent research indicates that higher plasma concentrations of myoinositol and melatonin are associated with better oocyte quality. Clinical trials have shown that supplements of myoinositol, alone or combined with melatonin, can improve oocyte quality and in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in women with PCOS and in those without the condition.

Studies have also found a direct link between high follicular fluid concentrations of myoinositol and better oocyte quality. Additionally, myoinositol supplementation in ovarian stimulation can reduce the number of FSH units needed, potentially increasing the chances of pregnancy.

The effects of gonadotropins on ovulation, follicular growth, and luteinization are influenced by differences in FSH and LH receptor concentrations.
